Treating Varicose Veins

The most common misconception about varicose veins is that people only want treatment because they do not like the way they look cosmetically. Varicose veins can cause leg fatigue, swelling, and general discomfort. In addition, they can be a warning of long-term health risks including: deep vein thrombosis, blood clots, poor circulation, and leg swelling.

Exercise is the best way to prevent and maintain the vein tissue. Twenty minutes of walking a day or simply raising yourself up on the balls of your feet and then lowering them to strengthen the calf muscles throughout the day are two simple ways to help prevent varicose veins. Compression stocking is another approach to prevent the disease’s ability to progress.

There are different office base procedures that are available to treat varicose veins including Endovenous laser ablation, ambulatory phlebectomy, and Sclerotherapy. A physician will decide which procedure will be appropriate for the patient after evaluation.
